In UK, at the time of the Crimean War, a daily newspaper was launched with the aim of promoting peace, rather than fomenting war:

The Morning Star

It is an interesting story, which has not yet been fully documented.

Later in the 19th century, there is the great figure of

William Thomas Stead (1849-1912)

„has been called the Napoleon of journalism. He was an
influential figure at both Hague peace conferences, and a friend of Bertha von Suttner and Alfred Hermann Fried“.

A prominent
American. He came closer to governing Great Britain in the years 1884 through 1888 than any other one man in the kingdom.
