This is probably the first book to report and discuss the outcome of the »UN Decade of a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World« (2001–2010). The focus is on the presentation of the UN concept of a culture of peace, on the balance of the UN Decade from various points of view and countries as well as on the discussion of theoretical and practical aspects of the concept of a culture of peace, including peace education.
The list of (prominent) authors includes David Adams, Amada Benavides, Ingeborg Breines, Alicia Cabezudo, Manuel Dias Diz, Federico Mayor, Danilo Streck and others.

»A culture of peace will be achieved when citizens of the world understand global problems; have the skills to resolve conflict constructively; know and live by international standards of human rights, gender and racial equality; appreciate cultural diversity; and respect the integrity of the Earth. Such learning can not be achieved without intentional, sustained and systematic education for peace.« (Hague Appeal for Peace, Global Campaign for Peace Education)
