Commemorating the International Day of Peace at UN Vienna

The NGO Committee on Peace Vienna, with the support of the Bertha von Suttner Friedensakademie, warmly invites you to a special event marking the International Day of Peace. Under the title
“UN – 80 Years for Peace, Perspectives for the Future”
the gathering will take place at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) on Friday, September 19th, 2025.
Part I – Ceremony at the Peace Bell
Time: 14:00 (2:00 PM CET)
Meeting point: VIC, Memorial Plaza, Peace Bell
- Welcome address: Mr. Peter Haider, Chair, NGO Committee on Peace – Vienna
- Messages: Ms. Rebecca Jovin, Chief of Office, United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs at Vienna, along with Ambassadors to the UN in Vienna
- Musical contributions: Drums and saxophone
- Closing: Ringing of the Peace Bell
Part II – Panel Discussion
Theme: “UN – 80 years for Peace, Perspectives for the Future”
Time: 15:00 (3:00 PM CET)
Venue: VIC, C-Building, 7th floor, Conference Room CR3
Speakers:
- Mr. Jean-Luc Lemahieu – Visiting Lecturer in International Relations, member Advisory Board of the Siracusa Institute, former Director of Policy Analysis and Public Information, UNODC.
- Dr. Verena Winiwarter – Professor of Environmental History, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences; former head of the Commission for Interdisciplinary Ecological Studies, Austrian Academy of Sciences; Scientist of the Year 2013.
- Ms. Heather Wokusch – Founder of blockhub.care; Executive Director of SDG2030.me; expert in PeaceTech and EdTech for humanitarian capacity building.
- Ms. Anastasia Yatsko – Founder and Programme Director, Earth Charter Austria, working for a just, sustainable and peaceful global future.

If you or your guests do not hold one, please register by email to pavlovsky@oesgi.org with the following details:

- Family name and given name (as in ID)
- Date of birth
- Type of ID (passport, driver’s license, etc.)
- ID number and country of issuance
Deadline for registration: Tuesday, September 16th, 2025
Registered participants will be listed with UN security at Gate 1 of the VIC. Please bring this invitation along with your registered ID. Allow sufficient time for security formalities.
